The annual Grandmothers Walk is a very special event that our school division is honoured to be a part of, as this initiative is a positive step in reclaiming our Elders place in protecting our children, healing, and bringing unity back to our community. Over the past few years Manitobans have been following the wisdom of grandmothers and have begun walking together, to raise awareness about the need to protect our children from sexual exploitation. This walk takes place on September 21st of each year, and honours the spirit of our children, youth and loved ones who have lost their lives through violent deaths and suicide. It is essential that we bring awareness to these issues, so that we may help deliver the critical message that these violations against our children must stop. This walk allows our community an opportunity to rally together and continue to have the difficult conversations which are required for growth, healing and positive change.
